Kate is a Consultant Specialist Neonatal & Paediatric Surgeon at both Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Portland Hospital.
Kate has particular interest in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery and surgical oncology especially surgery for neuroblastomas. She is the senior oncology general surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. Her areas of expertise include laparoscopic procedures such as hernia repair, orchidopexy, fundoplication, gastrostomy, appendicectomy, cholecystectomy in addition to her oncological experience. Kate has performed advanced laparoscopic procedures in children from birth, including premature infants and has special expertise dealing with neonatal congenital and acquired conditions including oesophageal atresia, abdominal wall defects, bowel atresias, diaphragmatic hernias. She is also committed to the general surgical conditions of childhood such as abdominal wall hernias, undescended testes, hydroceles and general lumps and bumps.
Kate develops a strong rapport with patients and their families and was the recipient of the annual Child and Family Award at Great Ormond Street Hospital in 2012. She has been featured in the press for her role as a female specialist surgeon.
Kate is a member of BAPS, ANZAPS, IPSO and SIOPEN and is has been an invited speaker at national and international meetings. She has a strong involvement in clinical research and has many publications and book chapters both published and in progress.
Kate is a founding member of The London Children’s Surgery Group at The Portland Hospital.
